Ghana Wins Junior Division Title at 2026 Robofest World Championships

Ghana Robofest Team Apex from Mikrobot Academy have won the Junior Division title at the 2026 Robofest World Championships in Michigan, United States.

The Ghanaian team secured the title after competing against 26 teams from 19 countries. The competing teams came from the United States, China, Canada, Mexico, South Korea, and and a range of other countries.

Team Apex was made up of Faiz Sornyiina Abdul-Wahab, Tiana Lilian Naa-Chardey Taylor, Israel Yeboah Awuah, Inaaya Khan, and Aalia Mehreen.

Ghana also recorded another strong result at the competition. A team from Right to Dream Academy finished second in the Senior Division, adding to the country’s presence across multiple categories.

Ghana’s Robofest Track Record

Founded in 1999, Robofest is hosted by Lawrence Technological University in Michigan. The competition is recognised as one of the world’s leading robotics events for young innovators.

Participants design and programme fully autonomous robots capable of completing assigned tasks without remote control. The competition brings together students from different countries to test their engineering, coding, and problem-solving abilities.

This year’s Junior Division title marks Ghana’s first world championship victory in that category. However, the country has previously enjoyed success in Robofest’s Senior Division.

Prempeh College and Methodist Girls Senior High School both secured world titles in earlier editions of the competition. Their performances helped establish Ghana’s presence in the senior categories before the latest Junior Division success.

Meanwhile, the 2026 result adds another chapter to Ghana’s growing record at Robofest. The combination of a Junior Division title and a Senior Division runner-up finish highlights the country’s growing success in international robotics competitions.
