Black Stars Touch Down In Rhode Island Ahead Of The World Cup Stage

The senior national team of Ghana, the Black Stars, has arrived in Rhode Island to kick off its World Cup campaign. Sporting green jerseys and white scarves decorated with the colors of the national flag, the squad looks the very picture of unity and determination as it begins what could be an exciting and defining tournament.

This marks Ghana’s fifth qualification for the FIFA World Cup, following previous appearances in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022. It also presents an opportunity to improve on the country’s famous 2010 quarter-final run, the closest any Ghanaian team has come to reaching a World Cup semi-final.

It has not been the smoothest build-up for the Black Stars. Former coach Otto Addo was dismissed just 72 days before the tournament following a poor run of friendly results. Ghana then appointed veteran Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz, who has previously managed Portugal, Iran, Egypt, South Africa, Colombia, Japan, and Oman.

As a result, there is a sense of uncertainty—and anticipation—surrounding the team’s campaign. Ghana’s World Cup journey begins against Panama in Toronto before facing England and Croatia in its remaining Group L matches. The team currently enjoys the support of not only Ghanaians but many West Africans who will be cheering them on throughout the tournament.
