The Best Looks By Africans At The MET Gala 2026

It’s a yearly tradition now: on the first Monday of May, we gather online to watch what is billed as fashion’s biggest night — the Met Gala. The exhibition has historically been an opportunity for patrons of the arts to put their money where it matters, all while showing off some of the glitziest outfits you’ll ever see.
This year’s edition had Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, and Venus Williams serving as co-chairs alongside Anna Wintour, the global chief content officer and artist director at Condé Nast and the lead chairperson of the Met Gala. With a co-chair list that brought together some of the biggest names across music, film, and sports, the guest list reflected that same star power. Everyone from Rihanna to the heartthrobs of Heated Rivalry, Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams, as well as Met Gala veteran and multifacted entertainter Janelle Monáe, showed up on the red carpet and gave their best interpretation of the theme, “Fashion is Art.”
With a theme like that, you can imagine the carpet was filled with some of the best looks — and some of the weirdest. Luckily for us, our African stars weren’t left out and held their own with their “Fashion is Art” interpretations. Here are some of the most stylish African artists who showed up at this year’s Met Gala.
