16-Year-Old Nigerian Tech Prodigy Belusochim Ugochukwu Makes Waves in AI and Robotics at Apple

At 16, Belusochim Ugochukwu is already doing the kind of work many people spend years studying to get close to.

The Nigerian tech prodigy is currently working at Apple as a Machine Learning Engineering intern, where his work spans computer vision and robotics research. He previously announced that he would join the company’s Environment & Supply Chain Innovation team, working on product recycling operations and Apple’s ambition to reach net-zero emissions by 2030.

And because apparently being 16 and working in AI at Apple wasn’t enough, he has also been part of the Y Combinator ecosystem. Earlier this year, he participated in a Google DeepMind and Y Combinator hackathon, where his team built an AI voice agent that allows developers to interact with Claude Code remotely.

There is something particularly exciting about Ugochukwu’s trajectory. His story isn’t simply about a teenager who got an impressive internship. It is about a young Nigerian who has spent years building, experimenting and finding increasingly ambitious ways to turn his curiosity about technology into something tangible.

At an age when most teenagers are figuring out what they might want to do with their lives, Ugochukwu is already helping build what comes next. And if this is what the next generation of African tech talent looks like, the future is looking very interesting.
