Meryanne Loum-Martin Is Redefining Luxury Hospitality In Morocco

After leaving a career in law, Côte d’Ivoire-born entrepreneur Meryanne Loum-Martin co-founded Jnane Tamsna with her husband, Gary Martin, in 2001. Located in Marrakech’s Palmeraie, the nine-acre luxury boutique hotel blends Moroccan craftsmanship, African art and flavours inspired by Moroccan, Caribbean and West African cultures.

Born in Côte d’Ivoire to a Senegalese father and a West Indian mother, both lawyers, Meryanne spent her childhood between Abidjan, Accra, London and Moscow before moving to Paris to pursue a career in law. Her multicultural upbringing would later shape her approach to hospitality, one rooted in the belief that luxury can be both globally minded and deeply connected to cultural heritage. Described by CNN as a “pioneer of Marrakech boutique hospitality,” referencing how Meryanne has built a reputation for creating spaces that bring African culture and contemporary luxury into conversation. For example, Jnane Tamsna is featured in the MICHELIN Guide’s hotel selection, while her latest venture, Jnane Karwan, was named one of TIME’s World’s Greatest Places of 2026.

Beyond hospitality, Meryanne is committed to changing how African creatives and entrepreneurs are recognised, particularly when it comes to ownership and intellectual property. “We’re still not recognized enough as owners of our own stories. But authorship changes everything. It puts you on a different level,” she said. “My goal is to build a platform for people who originate ideas and retain ownership of their intellectual property.”

Her journey is a reminder that building a global legacy is not just about creating exceptional spaces. It is also about shaping the narrative, preserving cultural identity and retaining ownership of the ideas that move the world forward.
