This September, AfroFuture is bringing Champion Sound: Turntable Wars to The Rooftop at Pier 17 on Sunday, September 13, for a celebration of music, culture, food, fashion and community.

Presented with Martell, the day will centre around a high-energy DJ battle, with some of the diaspora’s best selectors going head-to-head alongside live performances and a crowd overlooking the Manhattan skyline.

But Champion Sound is about more than a DJ competition. It’s a snapshot of how African and diaspora culture continues to shape the cities it moves through,from the music we dance to, to the fashion we wear and the communities we build around it.

And there’s something particularly fitting about bringing that energy to the New York waterfront: a city that has long been a meeting point for African and Caribbean communities from around the world.
